Many celebrities came out for the Free The Nipple Fundraiser event at the Skybar on the Sunset Strip, West Hollywood, last Friday. Among them, Karrueche Tran, Chris Brown and Elena Choo were spotted entering the rooftop bar where the fundraiser party was held. Elena wore a white one shoulder dress from BCBG Max Azria, silver Jimmy Choo heels and a red Prada clutch.
Free The Nipple is a campaign that advocates a woman’s rights to go topless in public. Decades ago men overcame this issue, and now women are fighting for equal treatment: the acceptability of not wearing a shirt (or bra) in public. In the State of New York, which is incidentally the birthplace of the movement, it has been ruled completely legal. Free The Nipple is more than just about personal freedom, it also addresses issues such as breastfeeding in public and the censorship of female nipples on Instagram. There is a film of the same title directed by Lina Esco, a founder of the campaign. Said film was the starting awareness tool for gender equality cause, which is now a global movement.
Scout Willis, daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore showed her support for the cause by documenting her journey of wandering topless around New York on Twitter. Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Suki Waterhouse and Cara Delevingne have also been spotted on social media in support of #FreeTheNipples.
