Mary Lauret – Thanks for the great introduction, you said most of it. My dad Laurent Ajayi was born to a British French Mother Marie and Nigerian Father Ajayi, My grandmother gave birth to my dad in London and as at that time was already settled in the United Kingdom. I was born in Nigeria and my mum is Nigerian. The French connections happened through my grandmother Madame Marie, for me it’s amazing.
You bear same name Mary with your grandmother Marie
Mary Laurent – It’s interesting, Mary is Marie in French. My Father actually gave me the name “Mary” and that’s my very official name and a name I’m widely known with. I Bless GOD.
It’s clear your family fashion brand name MARY LAURENT are your real names put together, your name Mary and your dad’s name Laurent. Your Father must be real proud of you.
Mary Laurent – I Bless GOD also for that. (smiles)
So, for the french factor – have you been to France?
Mary Laurent – That’s a capital YES
How was it?
Mary Laurent – Oh beautiful, Right from when I stepped into the airport at Paris, I felt the connections and the history. I did not feel like any stranger, I had everyone smiling at me and this was very wonderful and welcoming for me. So it was amazing.
Will you be speaking French in a movie anytime from now?
Mary Laurent – I feel it will happen at some point in time, only The Almighty can make all things possible. For now, I just say to my friends, look my French is basic, I want to take it to that conversational level, I have friends from France who are my pals here in London and we do the conversations together.
We have seen you evolve from many career angles from writing to blogging to television presenting to anchoring and now into films, this transition has been flawless for you, how did you do it?
Mary Laurent – These were gifts I’m blessed with by GOD so they have been made to compliment each other, so everything is needed to make everything as it is. None of it was not needed at any stage.
We have seen you cast in a new US drama series, it is not unusual for actors moving to Los Angeles at some point, are you set on a move?
Mary Laurent – This is a global village and anyone can be sort of anywhere at any time with so much ease. I will not be talking so much on this.
We heard your artistic collaborations, we can see you rap too, bring’em on
Mary Laurent – (laughing) Yes, I have rap skills, I was a very good rapper at high school, I was actually called 50 cent at one time because my group did a gospel version for 50cent track go shawty it’s your bufday”. That was at high school though. At the moment, my artiste friend who ‘m not going to be mentioning his name has some of his rap albums produced right here in London and you might be checking out my rap styles in some of his videos.
How do you get the balance in all this?
Mary Laurent – I believe getting the balance is finding, knowing and getting what your true source of joy is, because this will be the centre at which other things and aspects of your life revolve and man’s true source of joy has been tested and proved as GOD, as long as it’s natural, it’s just temporary but when it’s divine, you can never be bored, you are always daily loaded with inspirations – afflatus.
Being a celebrity, how does it make up for relationship, any plans for marriage soon?
Mary Laurent – My comments reserved, next question (smiles)
