When he wasn’t going to school or playing other sports like swimming and handball then he was break dancing and watching other dancers to see what other moves were possible. He soon realized that break dancing was really an individual sport and way to dance that didn’t have a blueprint that fit everyone. In other words, break dancers might have several similar moves but ultimately, each one would develop dance steps and movements that were quite unique to them and them alone.

He also observed that there was no special method of training for the break dancer but he did find out the importance of warming up before trying any moves. He found that the older a break dancer is that more time warming up is essential for better and more fluid body movements and also to prevent injuries, which are common to all dancers and all athletes.

Lil’Phat has won numerous awards in break dancing competitions. He has also shared awards with his crew “Derevo.” They have traveled all over the planet, from China and Russia and Korea, to Europe and the United States and have proven themselves to be international competitors who are excellent break dancers. They are proud to have won the world championship at KOD (Keep On Dancing) in 2014 in China. Lil’Phat and his crew are the only break dancing team from Russia to have ever won that event. Apparently, persistence really works as they attempted three times before to win it and then finally did so on the fourth try.

Lil’Phat has been in Los Angeles for a while now and is studying everything hip hop and blending in with the street culture in Southern California. He brings a lot of talent with him from his home country of Russia and says that practice is how to find your way.

September marks Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and to kick things off the St. Baldrick’s Foundation hosted its third annual Ever After Ball on Saturday, August 25 on the CBS Studio lot. This year the foundation raised over $70,000 with additional donations still pouring in.

This year’s event was remarkable because the foundation honored 8-year-old Grace Ellen Bumstead who is battling leukemia.

The event was hosted by KOST 103.5 FM Co-host, Ryan Manno. Additional special honorees which included Ellen K, host of the Ellen K Radio Show; and Dr. Welli Sun from City of Hope. The event concluded with a surprise head-shave with Manno going bald for the cause and Grace Ellen’s mother who also shaved her head.

There was a guest performance by Aliyah Moulden from ‘The Voice’. The Swansons, Alternative Country Rock-Pop Band Husband-Wife Duo Joe and Angie Finley, headlined the event.

The Swansons performed songs from their newly release album “Country This” including their new music video “Move Forward”.

Born and raised in London, Samantha’s career began in film and television production. Upon graduating with a BA (Hons) degree in film and TV studies at Southampton Solent University, Samantha spent five years in production, working at The Disney Channel.

A visit home with her mother reminded Samantha of her childhood interest in makeup.

“My mum told me she always saw me doing makeup. I was a bit of a weird child when I was around twelve years-old. I used to invite the neighborhood kids over and put makeup on them to make them look like dead bodies – then take pictures of them.”

The realizing of character on film, screen and stage demands an elite skill set and craft. Samantha made a decision to reinvent her career path and redirect her passion – attending The Cinema Makeup School in Los Angeles. The Master of Makeup program trained Samantha in beauty, fashion, body painting to character, prosthetics and special FX.

“I was determined to be the best I could be. I practiced every minute of every day.”

Samantha’s diligence paid off, earning her (on two occasions) an honored selection for the exclusive ‘Leonard Engelman Fellowship Program’, in the departments of beauty and fashion, and the other in character makeup.

Upon completion of the fellowships, Samantha worked in Los Angeles, gaining valuable experience on films, TV, theatre, commercials, music videos, online content, webisodes, live events, and fashion shows.

African literature refers to literature of and/or from Africa. In one of Charles Umerie’s interview, he made it known that language and content shouldn’t be used together to judge what is and isn’t African literature. Language is only a tool for communication, and what makes an African literature is more than content.
According to Charles Umerie, for any work to be categorized under African literature, it should at least pass any of these tests: language, be from or of Africa. Language test is when an African writer uses native language to write a book, and as Charles said, “No matter the content, native language alone is enough to make that book fall under African literature.” Even if an author chose to use English, a foreign language, but the content is from Africa or of Africa; that too can make a work be categorized as African literature.

In as much as Charles Umerie thought his book would be seen as not being African literature, African readers related to it quite well, and on his upcoming book, Charles said he would do something ‘of Africa’ that would inform and entertain.
